Pulakesin II was a most powerful ruler of Chalukya dynasty in the Deccan. He extended his territory in all directions and in doing so came into conflict with both Harsha in the north and with the Pallavas in the south. He was successful during most of his reign but was finally defeated and slain in conflict with the Pallavas.
