B. R. Ambedkar was a well known Indian jurist, statesman, social reformer and scheduled castes leader. He was the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee and played a significant role; in drafting the Indian Constitution after India attained Independence. He was honoured posthumously with the highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna on April 14, 1990.
