The Properties of Silicon Tetrachloride –
(i) It is used in smoke screens, to make various silicon containing chemicals, and in chemical analysis.
(ii) Silicon Tetrachloride is a clear, colorless, fuming liquid with an irritating odor.
(iii) It is volatile liquid with boiling point 330.57 K.
(iv) On reduction, it gets converted into Si. the silicon so obtained is ultrapure and is used for making transistors, computer chips and solar cells.
