Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen prepared by passing oxygen through a silent electric discharge. Present in upper atmosphere and protects earth’s surface from ultra violet radiation. A strong oxidizing agent. Forms ozonides with alkenes. Used for oxidation, sterilization and purification.
