Facts of Atom – The main facts related to atom are as following:
(i) There are three parts to an atom viz. electron, proton and neutron.
(ii) They are the basic building blocks of all types of matter in the universe.
(iii) Each element contains a different number of protons, that make up elements and Atoms are the smallest particles.
(iv) The electrons orbit so far away from the nucleus, that an atom is mostly empty space. Each atom is 99.9% space.
(v) Electrons are negatively charged particles that orbit around the outside of the nucleus. They are attracted to the positive charge of the protons and are they smallest particles in an atom.
