Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of the Indian Republic (1950-1962). In early life, he was a prominent member of the Youth Movement in Bihar. In 1917, he joined the Congress and took active part in the Non-co-operation Movement of 1920. He was Minister for food in 1947; President of the Indian Constituent Assembly (1946-1949).
